The Haunting of Market Street

This week I continued with the creating a shortened Zine, something that fits on a single A4 sheet of paper with just enough information to set the scene, plot and hook with some NPCs sprinkled through that it could be used in any system.

I think it worked out well so without any further waiting I present, The Haunting of Market Street, in the short format, as a fun one-shot to assist GMs when they need a night out of the books whether you run pathfinder, Open Legends RPG, D&D or any other RPG System.

There is references to the blog nights which are D&D centric (regarding Friday night’s Stat-blocks) but this adventure can be used system agnostic more so than my regular Zines. As always Kobold fight club can be used to quickly balance an encounter for Dungeons and Dragons and Tetra-cube provides the stat-blocks for many of my D&D creatures.

So I hope you enjoy this weeks adventure, The Haunting of Market Street, and that your rolls are made with advantage.

Thanks for joining me today for another Zine this year. This is a condensed version of the Zine, but I hope the format works and is good to look at! Please feel free to leave comments if this format is appealing – so make sure to grab a copy of the PDF.

Next time you get a party together consider running this adventure and I hope that you enjoy it.

The Crystal Seer

This week I decided to take it a bit slower and to look at the direction I wanted to take with the blog. In doing so I came up with a small adventure which isn’t really a surprise now. But what I wanted to do tonight was look at creating a shortened Zine, something that fits on a single A4 sheet of paper with just enough information to set the scene, plot and hook with some NPCs sprinkled through that it could be used in any system.

I think it worked out well so without any further waiting I present, The Crystal Seer, in the short format, as a fun one-shot to assist GMs when they need a night out of the books whether you run pathfinder, Open Legends RPG, D&D or any other RPG System.

Searching for the right Shape

Tonight and I have created a new zine for the year. I hope you are finding the current format of this Zine useful as I am continue to investigate what I can create weekly. So without any further waiting I present, Searching for the right Shape, in the same format, as a fun one-shot to assist GMs when they need a night out of the books.

As always this adventure can be used system agnostic but focuses on D&D so please feel free to adjust to what ever system and the creatures you are using in your adventure! However as always Kobold fight club can be used to quickly balance an encounter for Dungeons and Dragons and Tetra-cube provides the stat-blocks for the creatures found in this adventure.

The party had been sitting down for a meal when they were approached by someone who obviously rarely attended these places. โ€œExcuse me for the interruption but I am hoping you are the right people I am seeking out.โ€ he mumbled looking worried before asking them to confirm if they were indeed the people who had completed a quest that they had in the past.ย

After the confirmation, assuming it is given, the man looks incredibly relieved. โ€œPraise Tyr. If you can, will you come with me? I have been sent to find you and only you will do. My employer needs people with your reputation and discreteness.โ€ he bumbled. โ€œWe can reward you very handsomely indeed. I will return for you on the morrow if you are willing to help. Please think on it as my employer’s generosity knows now bounds.โ€

The party rarely stayed unnoticed for long but this isnโ€™t uncommon when adventurers of such renown enter a city. But the party where probably not expecting the level of attention that their arrival would result in.

Several guards, merchants and even some members of various guilds approached them asking them if the rumours and stories were true about them. Several asked for the party to help them out with odd-jobs from around the town but they all didnโ€™t want to pay any gold. After the party suggested that they be paid for the jobs the requests dried up – several people expressing that โ€œso much for the rumour about them helping any in need and wanting nothing in return – just typical greedy adventurersโ€

However as they were mulling over a meal at the local Tavern they were approached by what they could only describe as an apostate.

โ€œI have need of brave adventurers who are willing to do what is needed. I can pay very well but I am unable to tell you what the job is here.โ€

As the world around them went silent the party became aware of a presence near the road. They had not gotten as far as they wanted to before the creature had apparently caught up to them.

As the wind caught hold of the crops that had gone wild in the forgotten fields the party caught the occasional chirping-purr sound. Occasionally a flash of blue, red or green would appear between the browning stalks of the crops before it would disappear nearly faster than it was seen.

As the party climbed the steep cliff the expertise of Jayke and Daruden became evident. Climbing rapidly and jumping to ledges that would require either great athleticism or training they fastened the pitons to ensure that they had a waypoint in case they fell, but more importantly the party could ascend with them.

Despite some of the earlier doubts in the duo the pitons held securely and none of them failed on the ascent. Jayke and Daruden even assisted the party several times to ensure that they ascended safely to the top.

However as they neared the ledge a sound reaches them that caused each of them to hug the stoney face.

The guttural voices of ogres could be heard from the ledge above them and the snapping of bones could be heard from the crackle and pop from a fire that cast a red glow upon the edge where they needed to reach in order to head towards the castle, or where Jayke and Daruden were taking them to at least.

The Price Verone Paid

Verone’s Black Tower – Created in Nightcafe.

The lure of gold is tough for nearly anyone to overcome as with great gold comes great power. The ability to fund your own operation, to buy medicine for the homeless, to build homes, fortifications, magical artefacts and more all stems from great wealth. But when there is too much gold offered then the question shifts from โ€œHow much are you willing to pay forโ€ to โ€œwhy so much, whatโ€™s the catch?โ€

The party had just entered Verone when an official of the city, a noble and secretary to the lord, approached them. โ€œI am so grateful that you came in such short notice. We were really worried you wouldnโ€™t show up in time and were beginning to wonder what we were to do with the chest of gold being out of the treasury for so long.โ€ Without giving the party time to talk he signalled them to follow where several guards were standing around a wagon that was laden with a large chest. As he neared the wagon he called backwards โ€œI hope the sum of ten thousand gold pieces was enough. I daresay we had to scrape the vault dry to get this much.โ€ he said as he slapped the chest, the guards looking nervously around.

โ€œBut as our messenger explained, we are in desperate need of heroes to accompany Verone’s hope, our own Hero, to complete the trail of the black tower. Simple enough for people of your skill as all you have to do is make sure the hero gets to the top and completes the ritual.โ€ he said with a hint of nerves, โ€œItโ€™s a bit different this time around with the hero,โ€ he paused, โ€œnever mind me – a lot of nerves is all. We need it to go well so we can ensure the future safety of the city, thatโ€™s all. So the hero will meet you by the gates, you are free to take the gold with you now or later – but I would encourage you to leave it here as it is a lot of gold to travel to the black tower.โ€ย

Corneth Bank Street

This week we find ourselves looking at Corneth Bank Street and the quaint Tavern where the first encounter with a deadly duo occurs. But there is also the streets, other buildings and a small section of the sprawling market that takes over this street to potentially explore.

So sit back, grab a coffee and let’s roll into tonight’s map.

Corneth Bank Street and Tavern – Created in Nightcafe.

This weeks map is accompanied by a lively image of the imagining of these streets. As these streets are busy during the celebration it only makes sense for them to be bustling with activity. However when the action occurs too many details can muddy what’s important and take away from the combat.

A quaint, small tavern that really serves as a front for serving food rather than accommodating guests is this initial encounter for this week. However it wont be the last.

Not much in this week with several art assets, some light blending of different coloured cobblestone as well as some extra detail to add “more” to the world. Not my most intricate map but I tend to find that street maps end up like this.

Arkensol Arena above ground – Created in Nightcafe.

Arkensol had been, for many years now, the centre for games and entertainment for the adventurers and those who love excitement and the combat that takes place in the arena.

Arkansas was always a place of trade rather than one of excitement and extreme games but the last decade saw a rise in business in the city when they started having wild, dangerous animals fight in the arena. The pinnacle of this being when they started to give criminals the choice, fight in the arena or serve out your sentence.

Nearly none of them made it past the first few minutes. But the organisers of the games made it interesting enough that they never had a short supply of creatures to fight or criminals fighting for their freedom.

The party had come to Arkensol to relax and perhaps spend some money as this latest game that the city had promised was meant to be the biggest one yet.

The original arena had been built quite small and level with the rest of the city but as the games grew they had dug out a sunken arena with light filtered down through skylights that lit up the arena and the stadium. A true masterpiece of engineering and magic combined.

With just a few gold pieces they were able to secure a seat and an ale as they waited for what was promised to be a fight to remember.

Manaeva Warehouse

So after some suspicions may have been made about a Manaeva Warehouse where a wagonload of crates were delivered the party have a hard decision to make. Strike first or second. This weeks adventure map is about tying up loose ends and making the most of the situation you are in.

So sit back, grab a coffee and let’s roll into tonight’s map.

Manaeva Warehouse

418ThMaWa

Manaeva Warehouse – Created in Inkarnate

A few buildings make up this weeks map. A main one and three side ones which, are largely vacant. Each is constructed from heavy, yet degrading walls and slated roofs but there is something different about the large warehouse. Tables with alchemical supplies and racks filled with weapons, ammunition and other items that don’t speak of curing the ill. But there are more ways into the building than just the messy front door and smarts may be rewarded here.

Featured for the third of three battles this adventure has, unless you enter the city the hard way that is, this one has a lot of fun and is featured in night time – but it wont be hard to make it day with removing a filter.

As always multiple, four, blended and re-coloured backgrounds make up the maps dรฉcor with dozens of stamps? Assets that make up the walls, doors, crates, lanterns, candles, lights, roofs and shelves. Nothing too hard or fancy this week but something I am quite happy with considering the time I invested in it.

Thanks for coming to visit the blog for another map night. Tomorrow we have some pretty standard stat blocks to reveal but with some twists to add a bit of potency to the combat. So don’t forget to come back for the last few days of this week and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,
