The Temple of Portents

Now for the next Zine of the year I present, in single page zine format, The Temple of Portents. I still believe that these provide DMs a lot more freedom to tinker with it how they want and open up the adventures to be more free formed and flowing than the larger booklet zines.

There is references to the blog nights which are D&D centric (regarding Friday night’s Stat-blocks) but this adventure can be used system agnostic more so than my regular Zines. As always Kobold fight club can be used to quickly balance an encounter for Dungeons and Dragons and Tetra-cube provides the stat-blocks for many of my D&D creatures.

So I hope you enjoy this weeks adventure, The Temple of Portents, and that all your rolls are made with advantage.

The Temple of Portents – Created in WordPress!?

The party arrived in Lumos during its holiest month, when clerics and mages gathered to deliver divine messages. The city had long thrived under the guidance of the High Oracle and the Portent Quartet, but doubts were growing. As they made their way to the towering ziggurat at the city’s centre, the air was thick with anticipation, scepticism, and frustration. Some citizens had suffered misfortunes from failed prophecies, blaming the diviners for their losses. Despite this uncertainty, the people still gathered, kneeling before the temple, waiting for the sacred ritual to begin.

The High Oracle stood with the four elemental diviners, each performing symbolic gestures—air cleared the sky, fire extinguished all lights except a single brazier, water soothed the crowd, and earth lifted the temple platform into the sky. A rhythmic chant echoed through the city as the ceremony unfolded. But when the Oracle spoke, her voice trembled with unease. “The stars are not aligned…” she announced before retreating into the temple. Panic spread among the people, their cries for mercy shaking the streets. The party knew this moment would linger in their memories for years to come.

As the night descended into chaos, city guards intervened, but it was the Portent Quartet who truly calmed the frightened crowds. With the divination failing, uncertainty gripped the city, yet the party found shelter at an inn, securing a good price in the confusion. The next morning, they encountered a mysterious woman in a red cloak, Tusicka Ignate, the Diviner of Fire. She had seen their faces, clothing, and surroundings in her vision with eerie accuracy—something only true prophecy could reveal. Suspecting their importance in unravelling the city’s crisis, she bought them a meal and explained that someone inside the temple was interfering with the Oracle’s magic, corrupting divinations and throwing the city into disorder.

Tusicka led them to the temple, where brown-robed figures with black scarves—Diviners of Earth—moved about, guided by Mistress Aeligica. Unlike others, Earth’s connection to the gods remained strong. Aeligica coldly informed Tusicka that the Oracle was attempting to restore her link through Earth’s strength alone. Suspicion lingered, and when Tusicka pressed further, Aeligica suddenly struck, sending her flying across the temple and disrupting her magic. She revealed the temple had been shifted, severing the powers of all elements except Earth, ensuring her dominance. Brown-robed figures surrounded the remaining priests, cutting off the weakened diviners.

Just as the party braced for confrontation, Tusicka reappeared, her body wreathed in fire. She had restored her connection to the ley lines and confirmed their fears—someone had deliberately disrupted the balance of magic. Now, with power returning to her, the truth was undeniable. The party stood at the threshold of a battle that would decide the fate of the temple and the future of Lumos itself.

The Blighted Burrow – Created in WordPress!?

Embark on a thrilling adventure in The Curse of Sprin, where mystery, magic, and danger await. The party arrives at the mist-laden village of Sprin, a once-prosperous farming community now gripped by despair. With wilting crops and starving livestock, the town’s mayor, Seraine, pleads for help, revealing the town’s mystical protector—the Moonburrow Hare—has vanished. She suspects trouble but speaks in hushed tones of an ominous figure, Mr. B, whose name carries unsettling weight among the villagers. The party sets out toward the edge of Knotwood Forest, where the hare was last seen, hoping to uncover the truth behind its disappearance.

Seraine – Created in CoPilot.

Tracking strange footprints and shattered eggshells, the adventurers stumble upon a sinister sight—poachers. Among them, a commanding woman orders a half-orc named Kug to transport a squirming sack, revealing that the Moonburrow Hare has been captured. As the party watches from the shadows, they witness giant weasels, locked in cages, being loaded onto wagons, alongside crates of stolen Moonburrow Hare eggs. A confrontation is inevitable, leading to a desperate battle against these ruthless hunters before the trail of their operation vanishes deeper into the Knotwood.

As the last poacher falls, he pleads for his life, offering the party crucial information—his employer, Bugs, a manipulative merchant, plans to use the eggs as blackmail, forcing the town into submission while keeping the hare imprisoned for his own gain. The poacher, hoping to spare himself, gives the party directions to Bugs’ encampment, where the captured hare is held. With time running out, the party presses forward, determined to stop the merchant before his scheme comes to fruition.

The Moonburrow Hare – Created in Copilot.

Reaching the poachers’ encampment, the adventurers find Bugs seated in his lavish tent, surrounded by his remaining men and an array of cages. As the party confronts him, he feigns diplomacy, offering the hare in exchange for their silence, but treachery is woven into his every word. At the moment of negotiation, Bugs makes his final move—drawing a concealed blade to slay the Moonburrow Hare, aiming to remove its magic from the equation entirely. The party reacts swiftly, a climactic battle ensuing, where Bugs finally meets his downfall.

With the hare freed and the eggs returned to the village, Sprin begins to heal. As if touched by the hare’s magic, the crops regain their vitality, the villagers regain their strength, and celebrations erupt through the streets. The party has not only saved the town but ensured that its guardian, the Moonburrow Hare, remains a symbol of prosperity and hope. This adventure is a tale of mystery, conflict, and redemption, promising players an unforgettable journey through the misty depths of Sprin and the ancient Knotwood Forest.

Battle for the Temple

Tonight we find those who battle for the temple, control of the Oracle and power over the Ziggurat within Lumos. But there are many more options that could be done here but that’s for another time.

So grab tonight’s encounter!

Battle for the Temple

516FrBaTe

The more powerful the mage the more powerful the divinations. Tonight we have a few mages going toe to toe within the temple and a lot of lower strength ones causing trouble amongst the area. The mage shouldn’t be used for all encounters but a few of them representing stronger foes would make for a good combat.

Mage – Created in tetra-cube.

Each mage or lower level wizard would need to cast spells associated with their elemental house – that is to say not all their spells are earth, fire, cold or lightning/wind based but they should have a few signature spells and avoid the other elements where possible. Sorcerer spell lists would be good for this as their affinity to harness different elemental types with the same spell list.

Priest – Created in tetra-cube.

The oracles chosen are all priests, guarding her in white robes. They will prioritise healing and sanctuary to protect the peace but wont tolerate being attacked.

Thanks for stopping in tonight to meet some of those engaged in the battle for the temple. Don’t forget to come back this weekend for the end of week Zine and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Lumos Temple Dais

Tonight we have a very simple map for something that could be overly complex and busy with the Lumos Temple Dias. Surrounding the centre of the ziggurat is a place of worship and focus and sadly, in this instance, bloodshed as a coup takes place.

So sit back and lets see the concept of this weeks adventure when adding tonight’s map!

Lumos Temple Dais

516ThLuTeDi

Lumos Temple Dais – Created in Inkarnate

The pillars that held up the roof were frequent enough that there was good lighting during the night and the day. It’s a big space but the fighting will mainly take place around the dais in the middle. Heavily defended steps enable the defenders to place barricades, magical or mundane, up to defend the oracle from friend or foe.

With such a simple battlefield its important that the battlefield changes as the battle goes on, cracks in the marble form, barriers of earth, fire, wind and water appear to control how the party or the opponents move about the battlefield and beyond.

A real simple map tonight with some re-shaded textures and art assets stacked on each other tonight. Nothing really to even write home about as the real components for this weeks map is the outcome of the mage and priest fights that occur within the temple.

Thanks for dropping by tonight for another night of adventure maps. Pretty simple tonight but too much would make it feel too busy. Don’t forget that we have another two nights of content to provide before the zine this weekend so don’t forget to come back for that. And lastly, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Didn’t See it Coming

As with all surprises there is always someone who didn’t see it coming, that’s what makes it a surprise and this week we have a pretty big one.

So sit down, grab a coffee and let’s crack on with tonight’s adventure!

Didn’t See it Coming

Didn’t see it coming – created in wordpress!?

The party had returned to the temple with Tusicka leading them for potentially one of the longest stairs they have encountered. As they reached the open-style temple they saw several brown cloaked men and women walking around the temple with a black scarf wrapped around their waists.

‘The Diviners of Earth. We’ve had a large intake of them this year due to the Mistress of the Stone, Aeligica. She is one of the best diviners that this city has seen and luckily, her connection to the weave and the gods has remained strong during these times.’ Tusicka added.

‘And it shall remain strong Flame Singer Tusicka.’ A voice as neutral as stone added as she walked forward and clasped the hands of Tusicka before greeting the party. ‘Water and Air have gone out at the High Oracles request to get more incense to see if the offering was not enough during he ritual.’ she added as he walked along side the temple. The space was large, a hundred feet on all sides with dozens of mages and priests moving about the space with robes of red, white, green, blue and brown.

There were so few of the other coloured robes present which when Tusicka noted the parties interest she spoke in a quieter voice. ‘Since the divinations stopped being prophetic many took their leave to reconnect with their craft or deities. Those that stay either have no where else to go or hold onto faith.’ she smiled weakly.

‘And while our brothers and sisters find themselves Earth find themselves having to answer to all queries as our connection remains strong as the roots of the earth itself. Tusicka smiled but there was something behind her eyes.

‘Aeligica, how goes the Oracle?’ she added as she went to head towards the small raised platform where the High Oracle knelt in prayer. A strong hand grasped her shoulder which caused her eyes to snap suddenly towards the owner. Aeligica stared against the fire in the eyes of the Flame singer.

‘She has requested to not be interrupted as she recontinues to connect. It’s been foretold that under the strength of earth that her connection will crystalise and the can commence once more.’ Aeligica spoke plainly but there was an element of coldness to her words. Tusicka practically sizzled as the taller and broader woman refused to remove her hand.

‘The Oracle will want to hear what I have foreseen, the news I bring.’ she replied as she contained her emotions just beneath the surface. The Mistress of the Stone’s gaze hardened. ‘I see.’ is all she said before she threw the smaller woman across the open space in the temple towards the edge. The shock of the attack was so much that as she collided with a pillar mid chant the words of her spell were cut off as she slid over the edge.

‘Its surprising how much power fire, water and air try and claim where they gather their power from earth. But shift the temple a few feet off the centre to break the connection with their planes and their power dwindles down to naught. The Oracle does not need the weak and the new age of stone will solidify the belief of the people in the prophets as they are guided by a strong hand, a stone hand.’ Aeligica said calmly as a later of burnt stone floated off her hand where she had grasped Tusicka.

The room moved quickly with those in brown robes surrounding the vastly outnumbered red, white, green and blue. As the party stared down the Mistress of stone, heat flooded over their back. ‘I knew something was up. When I returned to the old ley lines I was able to reconnect and divine the outcome.’ Tusicka landed clutching her left arm with her body wreathed in flames.

A bit of a change where its not a nation of fire causing the problems this time around. Will fire and right win or will they be stamped out by earths might. I guess you’ll have to come back the last few days of this week to find out. Don’t forget that tomorrow we will cover the map that are involved in this adventure and Friday we will have the stat blocks to help run this adventure for yourself. So don’t forget to come back each remaining day and lastly, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Tusicka Ignate

Tonight we meet the one of the Portent Quartet – Tusicka Ignate, the divination mage who commands fire as she tries to unravel the reason for the oracles failed divination and the solution lies with a group of outsiders… The Party… Not that anyone could have predicted that.

So sit around the brazier, inhale the sweet perfume of the incense as we scry through tonight’s adventure!

Tusicka Ignate

Tusicka Ignate – Created in WordPress!?

The night drew to the close with the city guard being called to instil order again, however it was the four diviners, the portent Quartet, who when walking amongst the gathered crowed instilled the calm across the masses. The party found a inn to stay in shortly after and due to the uncertainty within the city after the failed great divination they got a god price too.

It was morning when they descended the stairs to the ground floor of the Wondering Minstrel Inn where a woman in a red cloak was describing them in great detail to the innkeeper. As they made a noise on the stairs both her and the innkeeper looked at them with mixed expressions. While the innkeeper looked at them as if they were the carriers of a terrible plague the woman in a red cloak had the opposite; as if they held the promise of a cure.

‘Ah, just the people I was searching for. Innkeeper would you bring these fine people breakfast and what ever else they desire to eat or drink as I will be buying them a meal.’ she said as she pointed towards one of the few tables in the Inn. As they sat down the woman revealed herself to be Tusicka Ignate, the current Diviner of Fire and the one who was assisting the High Oracle last night in the ritual. She wore a small cloak that draped around her shoulders and a near dark charcoal colour tunic that looked quite ordinary. Her auburn hair seemed to glow as the light from a nearby window caught the edges of her hair. She was not exactly young but she had a youthful appearance that concealed her age well.

As they were brough forward plates of food and drink at their request and a purse filled with coins handed to them she looked at each of their faces in great detail. ‘Divination is a funny thing. There are a lot of influences when divining the future which is contrary to the belief of the majority of people in this city.’ she paused to sip on a mug of hot tea. ‘But there are generally a few things that stand out. Peoples faces, an article or shape of clothing and a place is generally enough to tie together the dancing flame with a prophecy.’

‘In this case when I searched for an answer I saw your faces down the the little perfect imperfections as well as exactly what you are wearing now. I saw the Innkeeper, the tavern and this very meal. Things being so perfectly predicted is reserved by prophecies given by the gods, not something conjured from a brazier.’ she paused again to sip from her tea.

‘So the question I have is. Why would my divination reveal you to me and in such detail if you were not either to blame for the current predicament or the ones to unravel what is going on.’ she waited and watched their faces for a moment with an amused smile. ‘Naturally I believe you are the ones to help unravel what is going on.’ she looked towards the innkeeper who was pretending to be busy and doing a lousy job of concealing her eaves dropping. With a few quietly whispered syllables Tusicka formed a glowing orb of energy around them that disappeared after a few heart beats.

‘I have shrouded what I am about to say so no ears, eyes or otherwise can hear what I am about to reveal to you. There is a foul plot afoot and I believe someone in the temple is stopping the oracles divination, interfering with the flow of magic so that our divinations are wrong. When I saw your faces this morning it confirmed that the temple is no longer the locus of power that it was, or should be. No, I conjured the ritual that led me to you quite a way away from the temple.’ she paused to look over at the Innkeeper who was still busy listening.

‘Magic is a fascinating thing. For everyone it is freely given as part of their lives. Intervention from serious harm, a dash of luck when gambling or simply finding one who matches your soul. Everything we do in life has an element of magic with it. But when you give yourself to the temple the world, the planes stop interfering with your life. You become wholly accountable for your own luck. I believe us meeting is a mix, my own interference with my luck and the natural luck of you being in the right place at the right time. I hope you can help me locate the truth at the temple as it seems not even the quartet or the Oracle herself is able to bend luck to our will until the interference is dealt with.’

A tall ask from the diviner of fire in tonight’s update for this weeks adventure. Don’t forget to come back daily to stay up to date with the adventure as it unfolds daily at my tabletop. We still have much to unravel and discover as we move forward towards the weekend so don’t forget to stay tuned for that. And lastly, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Not in the Stars

Just like almost everything in life sometime we things wrong, sometimes its just not in the Stars. Tonight kicks off another adventure for this week where we cover just that – where the stars were not aligned for a teeny-tiny event… If only it were that simple.

So grab your astrolabe and quadrants as we sit back and stargaze in tonight’s adventure!

The high oracle rarely got things wrong and the divinations that came from she and the council of four were as reliable as the sun setting and the moon rising. However, when they get a prediction wrong things start to go pear shaped for the High Oracle and Portent Quartet.

The party find Lumos, a city in turmoil as divinations start to go wrong when the city is run on knowing the outcome of choice at all times. Will the party divine the truth or will their success be not in the stars?

Not in the Stars

516MoNoSt

Not in the Stars – Created in WordPress!?

The party had come to Lumos , the city of prophets during the holiest month where the the council of clerics and mages gathered and gave a profound portent at dusk. These divinations were taken as spoken from the gods themselves and in the hundreds of years that the city had lived by the High Oracle and the Portent Quartet it had prospered.

As they walked down the streets to the ziggurat at the cities centre the atmosphere was charged with a mixture of emotions. Many bore excitement however there was a gnawing and overwhelming sense of apprehension. ‘They were wrong about the rain last week. My crops have started dying thanks to their failed divination’ one man complained to another as they were bartering over the price of seed.

‘I lost everything when I listened to their advice. “Under Tymora’s star” my ass. I lost my home thanks to them when I should have won at the tables.’ another bedraggled man complained as he stood in line to get rations from the church of Ilmater.

Similar stories of bad luck, could be heard throughout the crowds as they moved towards the tall, multileveled building at the city centre and every instance of bad luck was blamed on a failed divination. The party followed the path towards the ziggurat and gathered amongst the crowds kneeling before the steps leading on high to the temple at the pinnacle.

They didn’t wait amongst the chatter for long before the crowd fell silent nearly as one. Looking up a woman dressed in white and gold with four dressed in colours representing the elements of Air, Fire, Earth and Water stood on either side of them.

‘People of Lumos.’ she started, her voice magically amplified to carry across the city. As she spoke the clouds moved away from the centre of the sky above them exposing the full moon.

‘We stand before you your humble servants and we come here to complete the sacred ritual for this year.’ The man representing air walked forward as he raised his hands the clouds were pushed further away from the moon for as far as the eye could see.

‘We bring you the light that the gods bequeath us so that we can open our minds and our hearts.’ the woman representing fire said as she raised her hands to the ground and all the torches, fires and lights went out simultaneously within the city except for a faint brazier at their feet.

‘We sooth your aches and pains.’ the man representing water said as a cloud of mist descended down the steps and washed over those gathered underneath cooling their skin and magically healing aches and pains.

‘And as we offer ourselves to the gods to judge on behalf of this most holy of cities we ask them for guidance in how to live our life for the next cycle.’ the woman representing earth said as she reached outwards and the section of the ziggurat that they stood on lifted into the sky and floated higher.

Those gathered started a rhythmic chant almost instantaneously and the party found that the words sprung to their mind where they were unknown until this very moment. For several minutes the oracle and the quartet of diviners floated above the crowd while they chanted. Then suddenly the platform descended and the stones knitted together to form the steps into the temple itself.

‘The High Oracle will now speak!’ called the quartet together as the woman looked exhaustedly across them, her energy depleted in the short encounter.

‘The…’ she paused for a moment as her booming voice shook. ‘the stars are not aligned…’ she said as she shuffled away from the crowd and into the temple. The quartet stood astonished as the flames returned to the city slowly, the mist evaporated and the clouds started to flow across the sky and full moon as normal.

The fear, panic and calls for mercy that echoed out at that moment would stick in the minds of the party for years to come.

Depths of the Venom Tide

Now for the next Zine of the year I present, in single page zine format, Depths of the Venom Tide. I still believe that these provide DMs a lot more freedom to tinker with it how they want and open up the adventures to be more free formed and flowing than the larger booklet zines.

As always Kobold fight club can be used to quickly balance an encounter for Dungeons and Dragons and Tetra-cube provides the stat-blocks for many of my D&D creatures.

Depths of the Venom Tide

Through relentless rain and a tangled landscape, the party journeys to Starbrook, a village known for its fish trade but now burdened by a dark mystery. A wounded fisher, Sil, recounts an attack by an unseen creature lurking beneath the waters—one that has begun targeting people rather than prey. Urged by a desperate merchant named Rei, the group sets out to hunt the beast before the village’s fragile trade agreements crumble. As they navigate the dense forest, Sil leads them to the riverbank, where an unsettling discovery awaits: despite the downpour and the onset of the wet season, the water has receded unnaturally. Their search takes them upstream, where they uncover a crude dam, its makeshift structure forcing the river into an unnatural swell. Among tangled branches and broken rods, they spot movement beneath the surface—something resisting the current, something watching.

Determined to uncover the truth, Sil quickly takes action, hurling a weighted silken rope into the waters where the creature may be lurking. The moment it catches, she is nearly pulled under, the rope going taut as an unseen force drags with immense strength. The party rushes to her aid, engaging in a grueling struggle against an adversary that refuses to relent. When the tension suddenly snaps, sending them sprawling backward, they anticipate victory—only to find the branch they haul in stripped clean, its bark marred with unnatural markings. Then, a chilling realization dawns upon them as the surface of the water breaks, revealing two watchful eyes that gleam from the depths.

In an instant, the floodwaters erupt into chaos. Massive tentacles lash out, striking with terrifying speed, ensnaring logs, soil, and, worse, the unsuspecting adventurers. A beaked monstrosity, the scorch-venom octopus, emerges half-submerged, its gleaming gaze locked onto the party. One tentacle crushes a fallen tree, sending debris flying, while another coils around an adventurer, dragging them toward the swirling depths. Blades flash, arrows pierce the rain-soaked air, but the octopus fights with relentless cunning. Never fully revealing itself, it remains just below the surface, striking with calculated precision, forcing the group into retreat with every failed attempt to gain an advantage.

The battle rages as the party struggles against the monstrous creature. Its tentacles dart between rocks and fallen trees, searching for weakness, seizing moments of hesitation. Mud churns underfoot as the party fights against both the beast and the unforgiving terrain, their strength fading against its relentless force. It is not merely attacking—it is testing them, assessing their resistance. The river, once unnaturally subdued, now crashes forward as the octopus thrashes, disrupting the dam and sending waves spilling over the banks. Their hunt has become a desperate fight for survival, and as the waters rise, the creature refuses to retreat, forcing them toward a fateful confrontation.

With the village’s future hanging in the balance, the party must decide whether to stand their ground or flee the growing storm, knowing full well that the octopus will not abandon its hunt. The waters churn, the rain intensifies, and the beast’s piercing eyes never leave them. Whatever lurks beneath the depths has proven to be more than a mindless predator—it is something far more dangerous. And unless they act quickly, Starbrook’s waters may soon claim more victims.

2025 Campaign Adventure 20

Good evening all and welcome to the 20 adventure for my D&D party utilising DnD 2024 rules. While I will endeavour to not give away the campaign, adventure or plot moving forward (in case my party read these updates!) I will attempt to write up each adventure this year continuing with my, now, 2025 Campaign Adventure 20 – continuing on from the 2023 and 2024 adventure.

This is a continuation from Campaign adventure 19 as the party continues on their first mission as members of the investigation of the strange creatures in these lands.

2025 Campaign Adventure 20

Sa515CaE20

Plot:

New Companions and Travelling Arrangements

The party woke up and had a hearty meal consisting of sausages, bacon, eggs, thick cut toast, and in Taters case, a breakfast Ale. With Groku and Armaeth joining them as they finishing the last parts of their meal they caught sight of Tobias who had a tired and worn look to his normal smug expression. As he approached Tater and Kai, sitting down next to them, he explained that Steffani had approved a small group going to investigate the Bashe remains. He had been approved to travel with the party if they requested due to the mysterious nature of the mission.

Gwen had indicated that there was a lot of unknowns or conflicting reports but the request for aid and Payment in advance was enough for the guild to go and investigate. With little ceremony the party had invited Tobias, Tobi, to come and join them as long as he organised his own horse. Appearing uncertain about it he hurried off to procure a suitable steed.

The party caught up with Tobi as he sauntered side-saddled towards them on a rather fetching white riding horse. Its blond mane and tale complimented the golden accents to the riding tack and the very small riding bags that he had with him. Explaining for some while as he admired the green died leather accented harness and saddle he commented that it appeared to be quite uncommon for adventurers to ride side saddled – but he was determined to continue.

After Tater had taken to the Draft horse, Armaeth sitting with Groku on her riding horse and Kai deciding to walk until he could call forth his paladin-graced steed, they were about to head off where Tater was thrown to the ground by the ornery old draft horse. Tobi did not let up the comments about providing some tips and tricks about riding a horse and even suggested that the sturdy dwarf ride side saddled as it may prove more suitable.

Even despite the while stallion receiving an almighty whack from Tater that sent it dashing off towards the eastern gate Tobi managed to stay on the horse through sheer luck – much to Tater and Kai’s chagrin.

Cross Roads

The party continued for some time and Kai made an effort to show off some of the magical tricks that he head learnt when he was travelling with the wizard Tim. Tobi being amazed at first was a quick study and soon was boasting bout the age at which he had mastered the spells that Kai had likely spent ages learning. This wasn’t earning him any brownie points but the conversation was still civil as they continued along the eastern road.

The roads were busy this side of Warrensdeep with most of the traffic being agricultural or trade. The roads were well maintained and guarded as they approached a busy crossroads. Taking the path towards Faerstead the roads got a lot quieter and it was here that Kai was finally sick of walking and instead decided to play another trick on Tobias.

‘Hey Tobi, have you ever seen ancient goblin magic?’ he asked as he proceeded to vomit forth his paladin steed. The creature had a large wolf-like body with several bat features woven heavily through the creatures appearance. Lage ears, a wrinkled nose and sharp teeth. Along is muscular forelegs – where it divulged from mainly bat features – vestigial wings with a leathery skin between the inoperable bones that sprung rom near its clawed feet.

The mage nearly passed out, both Tater and Kai mocked him while the girls continued on like nothing happened. After a bit of time where the animals were needing a break, and so was Tobi as he was not used to riding horseback side-saddled or otherwise, they came across a small spring and some trees. Taking this time to rest they recounted how quiet it had been even with the potential ambush along the road where Armaeth had flown off to scout for the potential attackers only to see them fleeing into the distance away from the party. As they wrapped up their short break they continued towards Faerstead.

Sudden Test

Wanting to regain some dignity after the near-passing out incident Tobi volunteered for first watch that night as they were cooking a few large tubers he managed to find and a partridge he had caught. As they ate roasted vegetables and bird Kai and Tobi concocted a plan to test Tobi to make sure he was aware of what was involved when on watch.

Messaging his summoned steed via the telepathic link he organised for the creature to sneak off and, periodically, growl near by to test how Tobi reacted. Instead of raising the alarm he pulled out a little leather book called ‘A guide to the world’ and began taking notes around a Growling Owl. It wasn’t until the creature had pounced on him and licked his face that the party let him in on the test. Mordekai joined him for the rest of his watch and they experienced nothing foreign in their period. Rousing Tater, another prank from them both gone wrong, with a hefty kick to the stomach Tobi withdrew to a meditating like trance while Tater took watch.

It was then that somethings started to approach the camp. Rousing everyone and dousing the flames they prepared for battle but the eight foot tall bear-like apes that appeared was not what they were expecting. With a flurry of movement and violence Tobi had illuminated the creatures and sur rounding battlefield to make sure that those without Darkvision would be able to see the creatures which is when the first creature lashed out at Groku after her thrown axe barely missed it.

Digging in its sharp honed claws into her sounder it dragged her other shoulder into its mouth and bit down hard. The sudden ferocity and blood lust took the party by surprise and Groku was not looking well after sustaining a critical wounding strike. As the party fought back Kai blessed the party before he and his mount raced to support Tater and Groku who were facing off against two of these creatures. However the sustained damage against them caused a physical change in the creatures. Their wrinkly bear-baboon like faces grew taught and nearly skull like as a crown of flesh extended on top of their heads.

It attacked with renewed vigour and aggression as the smell of its own blood and the pain pushed it into a frenzy. As the party weathered the beating Tobi cast Chromatic orb and as the balls of energy lashed into the uninjured creature that was currently attacking Taters flank he managed to reel in the orb and send it spinning into the enraged, but prone thanks to a trip from Groku, creatures chest boring through as he rotated the orbs faster.

The smell of burning flesh and ozone was briefly lived as Kai smashed his shillelagh empowered attack into the creature. The as the party was able to focus on a single creature Tater raised his Halberd high and with a flurry of attacks spurred on by rage and the growing recognition of the blood-frenzy state that the creature was about to get into, he landed the finishing blow, separating the creatures head from its body.

After cleaning up everyone and tending to the most wounded, being Groku, the party let Tobi examine the bodies before he burnt them in a magically charged bonfire later, his experience as part of a cleaning unit for the guild coming into hand.

Soon the party welcomed a new dawn after some fun the day before, an encounter with creatures they had not seen before, and some early memories of their new party formation being created.

The resident of the Messota river is the humble scorch-venom Octopus which is a giant species of octopi. However when they get to full maturity they will construct dams in which to nest within and they will fiercely protect not only their new home but also the food source for their developing spawn.

The oldest of the beasts could give a giant a run for its money and coupled with its cunning and the venom that it injects with its beak that burns like lightning running through its preys fangs its quite formidable. Using its sharp beak and dextrous tentacles it will destroy nets with its poison cutting through the fibres. It also employs its poison carefully into wood with its crushing beak to construct the lakes that it births its spawn in.

Scorch-venom Octopus – Created in tetra-cube.

While it may be a dangerous creature to tangle with many a resident of the Messota river, or the communities that live along it never will see one due to its ability to camouflage as well as its ability to spray a curtain of ink and disappear before the water clears again.

Thanks for stopping in tonight to meet the many armed resident of the Messota river this week. Don’t forget to come back over the weekend for more tabletop content and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,
