2024 Campaign Adventure 13

Good evening all and welcome to the thirteenth day of adventuring for my party. While I will endeavour to not give away the campaign, adventure or plot moving forward (in case my party read these updates!) I will attempt to write up each adventure this year continuing with my 2024 Campaign Adventure 13 – continuing on from the 2023 adventure.

This is a continuation from 2023 Campaign adventure 11 & 12 as the party continues on their first mission as members of the investigation of the strange creatures in these lands.

2024 Campaign Adventure 13

Sa415CaE13

Plot:

Morning

Taking precautions after the run in with John – the halfling who ran the Fat Sow Inn and after checking for secret doors or ways into their room that they had been provided at the Inn they settled in for the night. Groku and Kai took the bed after Kai tried to sell the fact that they were all a married couple. It was not that convincing.

In the morning Kai was provided a different breakfast to straight pork and both Tater and Kai made their way to the mines to fill in the day before the feast that night. Meeting with Tom at the entrance of the mines, he was examining the ore production very closely, they proceeded to travel down the mines – but they were warned that some of the mine tunnels had pockets of dangerous holes so they had to be careful. Still suspicious of the Mayor they insisted on going alone and they were encouraged to do so. A dwarfs desire to explore his ancestors mining halls after all is something that they wanted.

The main entrance to the mine had three main tunnels. A old dwarven one that was not used at all on the far left of the entrance, the furthest right one was very active with miners and the one in the middle was not active, but it had some footprints that led into the depths which was a bit suspicious. But to explore Taters heritage they went down the old dwarven tunnels. For a few hundred feet they gradually descended until they came to flatter and less twisty tunnel. The air was danker and more stale down here but they continued along until they came to another three tunnels.

The Tunnels

The first tunnel was caved in but the other two seemed to go on some distance, branching out further into the darkness. The torchlight dimmed somewhat from the stale air but it wasn’t concerning. Examining the cave in Tater determined that it wasn’t naturally done, it was deliberate or, at least, blocked off on purpose. Feeling around two of the larger stones shifted with very little effort, a weighted mechanism that allowed two rocks to shift and then re join with the rest of the barricade to appear as if it was always closed.

On the other side of the secret door/ false cave in was a consecrated room dedicated to King Boralis the 3rd. A large stone slab that was positioned in front of the statue of the king. The room had four large shelf-like recesses in the walls with a few dwarven items laying in dust. A dwarven hand-axe, a few vases and pots that appeared as though they were placed, rather than left here. Another oddity was that the tunnel in which they came from appeared to have been dug into this room rather than from this room. This meant that who ever dug into here wasn’t the people who dug out.

After a while searching around they found that the table could be pushed towards the statue which unlocked a seamless door behind the statue. What was revealed on the other side left them confused and daunted.

A epically large cavern greeted them with large carved pillars that looked like they supported the roof (which was far enough that their torch light and darkvision could not detect) greeted them, as did the fact that nearly the entire cavern floor was gone. A grand chasm spread in all directions which, after investigating appeared to be related to ancient acid-pox markings on the rock as well as a 10ft hole that was bored in the roof.

The Bat

Using the magical but not yet defined bracers Kai climbed to the ceiling, in a way that spider man would, and made it to the hole clutching a torch in between his legs just in time for a huge bat with 30ft wings to fly out of the darkness to attack him. Kai instinctively used his bracer to launch himself into the hole and Tater launched an arrow that grazed the mammoth mammal but it was too late, the bat had found his prey. Latching to the cavern roof the creature used its clawed hand to grapple onto the goblin and only the bracer, and a series of three ropes tied to the goblin (as the ceiling was 150ft in the air) prevented it from taking off with him. However the true nature of the gauntlet was about to be revealed as it was being used past its limit.

After heated back-and-forth between bat, dwarf, human and goblin Kai was released and plummeted. Tater readied his psionic powers to catch and pull the goblin toe safety but not before the bat attacked again, attempting to grapple and bite the goblin mid flight. Several panicked moments later, and after Kai plummeted onto the bat to stab at it with his sword and his bracer’s metal vines, he fell within reach of Taters magic.

Groku making good use of her Ring of Magnetism when she threw her battle axe to lash at the bat, only for the weapon to fly back into her hands. Armaeth was clinging onto Kai after bathing her, the bat and the goblin in faerie fire and Tater caught the falling goblin and he managed to barely land him on solid ground. Kai was not in a well shape but there was another problem. The bat was tangled in the 150ft of rope that connected all three of them.

After another frantic moment of cutting ropes and Kai expending all his lay on hands charges, they watched the bat fall into the darkness. Except they didn’t just watch.

Kai used his bracers again and, without knowing how they truly work, expected the bat to be pulled to him. Instead he was flung onto the back of the bat. Who in its panic to untangle itself from the rope was not aware of the hitch hiker. Tater and Groku watched on with exasperation as the Bat flew off with the goblin on its back after they had expended nearly everything to get him safely back onto ground. But there was more.

Kai experienced the magical backlash of the gauntlets as they were pushed beyond their limit – causing him to sacrifice his life essence, a single hit dice, to sustain the bracers grip on the bat. However he didn’t release the bat or hide amongst its thick fur. Oh no he decided to try and tame the bat much like the wolf from just a night ago. Aware of the goblin the bat flew high into caver to allow it to use its clawed wings to untangle itself from the snack. Tater, Groku and Armaeth watched in horror as their ally was too far for them to do anything other than shoot with heavy crossbow.

As the fight continued the goblin landed a few small attacks on the bat, enough to make it weary of the fight. However it was all over when the magical backlash of the bracers occurred again and Kai had a terrifying realisation when his life force was ripped out of him, another 2 hit dice…, he was going to die. The bat pulled the goblin off its back before Kai released the bracer, not wanting to find out what happens when the bracer pulls the last of his energy out. The bat swooped and narrowly missed the goblin before in a moment of luck the goblin grappled with the furred creature again. But there was only soo much that could be done as the bat grabbed Kai, Kai impaled the bat with Frost Thorn before, having enough and valuing its own life, the bat flung the goblin at the far cavern wall.

In a moment of instinct Kai used the bracer to attempt to slow his fall to the bottom of the cavern wall on a ledge before the chasm, but the magical backlash was too much and a price was paid as he was pulled unconscious. The other party members watched horrified a the glowing bat (from faerie fire) flew off to his home to lick its wounds while the goblin was thrown against the wall and disappeared into the darkness. As Tater rushed to try and find a way to his ally he attempted to climb for the first time, and the properties of the magical belt he wore was realised. He could climb as easily as walking. After a frantic dash across the cavern wall he found Kai, the goblin… breathing but broken. One arm hung limp and mangled but he was stable. Forcing a healing potion into the goblin Tater managed to rouse him enough to tie him to his back before carrying him back to Groku and Armaeth who had been instructed to wait behind.

After they had made it across the chasm the realisation of Kai’s arm, limp and unresponsive, as well as that in the unconscious state, the impact from the wall and the fall to the ledge Kai had lost Frost Thorn somewhere in the darkness of the yawning cavern.

Fustmach again

Making their way back they met with a miner who was sent to find them as well as the mayor, Tom, who was worried. They told them about the giant bat which both miner and mayor seemed excited for as they had lost some miners down a few of these tunnels – them and all rescue parties were never seen again.

Tom took the party to see Hilder, the towns healer who quickly patched and cleaned up Kai, the only one to suffer damage, who also was shocked when Kai didn’t realise his left arm was shattered and broken in many places. The limpness seemed toe be a new feature for the Goblin. After provided with clothes that hadn’t been ripped apart from a huge bat the party considered their options. They had to go to the feast tonight to try and work out what happened to the other agent of their order, Fredrickson. However, they were in no state to be doing such a thing.

What ever would they do?

Thanks for joining me tonight for a hybrid of the continuation of my campaign as well as the seasonal adventure for my group, the final part of last-last years Dice-ember one-shot!. Don’t forget to come back again tomorrow for more content. And, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Manaeva Warehouse

So after some suspicions may have been made about a Manaeva Warehouse where a wagonload of crates were delivered the party have a hard decision to make. Strike first or second. This weeks adventure map is about tying up loose ends and making the most of the situation you are in.

So sit back, grab a coffee and let’s roll into tonight’s map.

Manaeva Warehouse

418ThMaWa

Manaeva Warehouse – Created in Inkarnate

A few buildings make up this weeks map. A main one and three side ones which, are largely vacant. Each is constructed from heavy, yet degrading walls and slated roofs but there is something different about the large warehouse. Tables with alchemical supplies and racks filled with weapons, ammunition and other items that don’t speak of curing the ill. But there are more ways into the building than just the messy front door and smarts may be rewarded here.

Featured for the third of three battles this adventure has, unless you enter the city the hard way that is, this one has a lot of fun and is featured in night time – but it wont be hard to make it day with removing a filter.

As always multiple, four, blended and re-coloured backgrounds make up the maps dรฉcor with dozens of stamps? Assets that make up the walls, doors, crates, lanterns, candles, lights, roofs and shelves. Nothing too hard or fancy this week but something I am quite happy with considering the time I invested in it.

Thanks for coming to visit the blog for another map night. Tomorrow we have some pretty standard stat blocks to reveal but with some twists to add a bit of potency to the combat. So don’t forget to come back for the last few days of this week and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

The Manaeva Wall

Tonight we find the party getting through the The Manaeva wall and meeting their next contact – a resistance fighter who is very eagre to get the shipment of crates into Manevea. But maybe not for the reason our party may be expecting.

So let’s sit down, grab a coffee and roll into tonight’s adventure!

The Manaeva Wall

Manaeva Wall – Created in Nightcafe.

Joe looked over the adventurers riding in the wagon cautiously. He had been told to look out for suspicious characters but the travellers before him had no reason to tie themselves to the pockets of discontent in the city. As he watched the wagon move past the gated checkpoint he shook his head. The lady of the city sure had her job cut out for her with what’s going on in the city itself.

Joe looked at his watch captain, Zyler, the man had never been a stickler for rules but he seemed more relaxed with this last wagon than normal. He didn’t seem any different but perhaps Zyler was having a bad day with the misses at home. Looking forward he watched the streets outside of Manaeva with the normal scrutiny. According to the Guard Commander they were seeing an increase in aggression from the rogue elements in the city and could expect something big in the coming days.

As the party continued down the street they sighed in relief, it appears that K. had had some influence with the guard that night as they were let through without too much trouble. As they headed towards the Tavern that they were told, the Cored Apple, a man approached them. โ€œWell I am not surprised that you made it, we have a mutual acquaintance and I have come here as the Cored Apple has come under new management and they take coin from a different more ruthless pocket now. The name is L. and I am glad to see you.โ€ he said with a smile. He appeared unarmed and genuinely happy to see them.

Following L. they continued through the street in the direction they were heading before, as they could see the Cored Apple, they headed off on a smaller side-street. As they went deeper things seemed to move like gnomish clockwork with wagons moving to block streets, open pathways deeper into a nest of buildings that had seen better days. As they moved deeper more people with a glowing lattice of marking upon their skin could be found โ€“ these were the people of Manaeva who were afflicted with the Manaflux curse.

L. stopped them in front of the double doors of a larger warehouse. โ€œWell this is it. One moment.โ€ he said as he rapped a pattern on the door. A moment later the door opened and hushed words were exchanged before several large pouches, one for each party member, were produced. โ€œAs K. would have told you this is the remaining fee plus a bit more for getting here in such a timely manner.โ€ he said as he handed the coin over. A small urchin with glowing marks under his skin appeared.

โ€œThis is Cale, he is able to show you back out of this little nest and to the main road again. You have been instrumental in the healing of this city and thanks to you,โ€ L. said with a smile as he ruffled Caleโ€™s hair. โ€œCale will have a future.โ€

However the party also noticed that beyond the warehouse doors there were dozens of people moving around. Several with glowing marks under their skin and some without, but each and every one of them carried weapons and wore darkened armour. Something didnโ€™t sit right with this, there was something more, something else at work here and maybe not for the first time they doubted that the crates that they had transported here were the cure for these people.

Perhaps they had been set up.

And that is where we leave tonight’s content here. Thank you for coming to the blog today but don’t forget that we still have a few nights left to expand and add more content. So don’t forget to come back each day to stay in the know and, as always , don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Smuggling K

Manaeva needs help and while the cure does exist there is something wrong with the person who is to be known simply as Smuggling K. Now when all is said and done the intentions could be very noble but how they are done, and what they are done with is something that is not to be encouraged. But before I confuse everyone let’s take a step back.

So grab a coffee, sit back and let’s roll into tonight’s adventure!

Smuggling K

418TuSmK

K. – Created in nightcafe.

The streets were dark as Kass slunk along the streets that were barely illuminated by her low burning lantern. The scarf around her head barely hid her features but she was counting on the darkness of the night and the part of the village that she was striding through to get the job done. It had been a while since she had been this nervous but this shipment to Manaeva was the largest she had attempted and it was the riskiest.

Despite this she was confident that the adventurers she had been recommended would get the job done. Outsiders with no ties to her, the city or the harpers had practically guaranteed them being untraceable. As the form of the wagon loomed in front of her she whistled once to let the guard watching know that she was here and once he had turned around she climbed into the back of the wagon.

It had been a while since her first job and the nerves and pang of remorse had long disappeared. She didnโ€™t even regret lying about being a member of the harpers or about the contents of these cloth wrapped crates. Some of them, the ones that were open to inspection would pass as โ€˜viable curesโ€™ but the ones hidden deeper and in false bottoms to the crates were definitely not. It was these vials that were the real product being sold, that and a few other surprises scattered through the deeper boxes. Hopefully the adventurers would be able to drop them off and head out without a problem. But there was always a chance for it to go wrong.

After checking the contents of several crates and satisfied that the real contents were hidden correctly she slipped back out and left a pouch of gold coins just inside the wagon. A bribe for the guard to keep his mouth shut and to not delve too deeply into where he wasnโ€™t paid to.

Thanks for joining me tonight to meet Smuggling K. Although all isn’t what it seems and a fair share of lies has been told to get the party to do what she needs them to do she is still a business woman and a damn good one. But this is just the tip of the iceberg and there are many more nights to come this week. So don’t forget to come back each day this week and as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

The Supply Run

This week we have the party caught in transit – passing from one city to another and, not quite making it all the way through as they take refuge in the ruins of Krencham. Will they make it out alive or will the storm filled night be too much for them.

So hunker down, grab a drink and let’s survive tonight’s adventure!

The long war-torn lands of Manaeva are rife with conflict and sickness which was a result of the magical backlash of the spell that ended the great war. Those who scrape out a living in the haunted city have to make do with what they are able to find or salvage and are a stubborn and hardy folk. Or, like many of the residents of the city, they are too poor and desperate to be anywhere else.

But the people of this land are not helpless as there are organisations that wish to send them aid. Wagons filled with food, medicinal supplies and materials in which to rebuild their life โ€“ it just needs someone to transport them into the city and past the guards who do not appreciate the interference of the city.

A dark plot is afoot in this city and the cart of goods that the party are escorting into Manaeva is at the centre of it. Will they work it out in time or will their aid attempt end in disaster for all involved.

The Supply Run

418MoSuRu

Supplies for Manaeva – created in Nightcafe.

Dozens of cloth wrapped crates were piled into the bag of the wagon in front of the party as K. handed them a few pouches of gold. “Now that’s half of what we owe you and a bit extra to cover any costs getting the medicinal supplies to Manaeva. My contact Honest James will be expecting you and will be able to give you the other half of the payment.” The woman known only as ‘K.’ smiled and despite the scarf wrapping around most of her head her face was visible, at least while addressing the party.

The party had come to Scute, a backwater down as they had heard of a business deal here that was nearly impossible to ignore, a large sum of gold for escorting a wagon into Manaeva. It was only after learning about Manaeva that the realisation of why the pay for a simple one or two days escorting a caravan of goods would pay so well.ย

Manaeva was the site of one of the largest magic-dominated battles that had happened in known history and the shattered lands absorbed a lot of residual magic. This magic has cursed many of the people that live on this land with a sickness which, until recently, didn’t have a cure. And that is where the party comes into it. The job is to muggle a wagon of this cure into the city, get it past the guards and distribute it to give the people a fighting chance. Or so K. said.

The current ruling power doesn’t want the people to be cured and has refused any help from outsiders. However the people need help and K. a member of the harpers is dedicated to helping these unfortunate people.

The Shadow of Oscowl

Tonight and I have created a new zine for the year. I hope you are finding the current format of this Zine useful as I am continue to investigate what I can create weekly. I do this while aiming to give the DM freedom and flexibility without railroading them and the Party. So without any further waiting I present, The Shadow of Oscowl, in the same format, as a fun one-shot to assist GMs when they need a night out of the books.

As always this adventure can be used system agnostic but focuses on D&D so please feel free to adjust to what ever system and the creatures you are using in your adventure! However as always Kobold fight club can be used to quickly balance an encounter for Dungeons and Dragons and Tetra-cube provides the stat-blocks for the creatures found in this adventure.

So I hope you enjoy this weeks adventure, The Shadow of Oscowl, and that your rolls are made with advantage.

The Shadow of Oscowl

Oscowl City – Created in Nightcafe.

Walking the streets of Oscowl the party keeps an eye out for people they know, suspicious characters or people that they recognise from the night that Ikob was killed.

After an hour or two they find themselves looking down a busy street of merchants with their wares on tables, mats or stalls. Barrels of produce lined the walkway and the merchants called to not just the party but everyone, proclaiming their goods superior quality as they tried to make more sales.

PDF adventure – The Shadows of Oscowl

Thanks for joining me today for another Zine this year. As usual there is a lot more in the Zine than there was in the daily updates on this blog – so make sure to grab a copy of the PDF.

Next time you get a party together consider running this adventure and I hope that you enjoy it.
I hope you don’t miss a thing so come back daily in the coming week and year. This is so you can experience the creation of the next adventure as it evolves and shapes out. And as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Other than D&D…

I spent a little bit of today creating something that I hadn’t thought I would get around to in a while, going back to an RPG other than D&D… But here we are and I spent half the day today looking into OpenLegends RPG once again and looking at how I would capture things simply as if I was to teach this great system to others.

So sit back, grab a coffee and investigate OpenLegends RPG!

Other than D&D…

Daruden braced as the orcs grand hammer slammed down on his shield knowing full well that he would be unable to dodge the attack in time. The orc (rolling with advantage 1, 1d20+1d10(1d10 advantage*): 25) was able to get past the Dwarven warriors guard (15). As the hammer met the steel shield Daruden felt his knees buckle under the pressure from the orc’s assault and stood shakily to his feet after suffering 10 points of damage.

Raising his battle axe high he aimed to disembowel the foul creature so he could make a clear path for his wounded allies to travel past to the relative safety of the cliffs behind the orc that had ambushed them. Calling out a mighty battle cry he attacked (rolling advantage 3, 1d20+2d6(+3d6 advantage*): 24! with an exploding d6!) and connected meatily with the midsection of the orc (guard 13). As he connected he stepped forward and pushed with his trained strength and pushed the orc 10 feet backwards in addition to dealing 11 points of damage. “Go now! I’ll deal with this beast and join you!” he called as he waded with shaking legs forward. He was not sure how much longer he could face off against his foe considering the state he was in.

All he hoped was that his luck would turn

As Tiluas Wellspring carried the unconscious Farnably up the mountain he looked back at his stalwart companion. Daruden was in danger as if they didn’t get height advantage soon the orcs would be upon them. Concentrating he cast Sylphs Blessing (Resistance – Forceful: Power level 3 – 1d20+1d10(+2d10* Advantage):17 vs DC 16). Tiluas watched as a flurry of wind wrapped around his ally causing blows to be turned aside as well as debris buffeting attacks which would, hopefully, soften or deflect blows them entirely.

Not for the first time on this cursed quest he thanked the Ring of Telekinesis that he had received from his teacher as a graduation gift from the College of the Arcane.

Exploring what can be done to keep track of the many, many option that OpenLegend RPG has to offer when creating characters, or NPCs, as well as what magic Items could look like when simplified yet still useful and desirable was an interesting endeavour today. There are still some tweaks I would make with the card concept but as a rough draft I believe they will prove to be beneficial.

While I think having a preferred and safe game system is always enjoyable to fall back to exploring what’s out there, and going back to an old favourite like OLRPG can make for truly enjoyable adventures. Something to consider if your group is wanting something to spice things up a bit.

Now that’s all that we have time for tonight, but its not all that we have for this weekend. So don’t forget to come back tomorrow for more Tabletop content and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Krencham Fields

This week we have an ambush, whether during a hasty retreat or a noble rescue but regardless of the when it happens in the Krencham Fields. These fields are long overgrown with the now wild crops of the previous farms that used to flourish in this area. Now these fields of high wheat, corn and other plants make it difficult to pinpoint where dangers are lurking.

So sit back, grab a coffee and let’s roll into tonight’s map.

Krencham Fields

417ThKrFi

Krencham Fields – Created in Inkarnate

The raised road provides good visibility in the surrounding area but it is rather narrow. Trees have fallen or dropped limbs from the recent storm and so there are hazards scattered near the roads. The real hero of tis map is the 4 feet (1.2 meters) high crops that basically hide anything that is medium sized from view if its sneaking through them.

A few blended background textures tonight and some simple tree placement to follow the narrative of the map. Different shades of the background texture add a bit of depth and add to the appearance of a blended crop-grass field. Many, many wheat crops n the field, some craggy hill assets to hide the raised section of the road (still don’t know how to use the dig tool effectively so this works ok, for now.).

Other than that a simple map that with some small adjustments could be extended indefinitely if you want to turn it into a chase scene. Fitting for either rescuing the Orster’s or moving out of the area surrounding the town.

Thanks for coming to check the map tonight. Tomorrow we reveal the stat-block for the creature so don’t forget to come back for the last few days of this week and, as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Creature Approaching

There are few things that can strike fear into players than the realisation that there is a creature approaching and that they don’t know what or where it is. This week we have a creature that excels at the hunt, employing illusions, misdirection and cunning that is rarely seen in the wilds.

But before we give too much away let’s sit down, grab a coffee and roll into tonight’s adventure!

Creature Approaching

417WeCrAp

Jane watched as the corn stalks moved and prepared her spell. Drawing her hand up the diamond on her bracelet caught the light from the sun as she drew energy from the weave. As the corn stalks stopped moving Harry gestured for her to prepare to release her spell as he took aim with his crossbow. The swift twang that resounded from the sleek drow-made device was met with a screech that sent a shiver down their spine. Jane released her spell โ€“ the chromatic orb bristling with thunderous energy as it slammed into the same spot that the crossbow bolt had lanced through the stalks.

The energy boomed loudly in the area, โ€˜Hopefully that alerted anyone nearbyโ€˜ Jane thought as she prepared another spell watching for any signs of life. The amount of energy she put into the spell was moderate โ€“ above what a new spell caster would be able to muster but as she saw three frantically moving tails in the corn she prepared a fireball. Retrieving the pre-prepared sulphur covered ball from a pouch within her sleeve she began the spell. Drawing in the heat from the surrounding area she pushed it inwards to the ball. Mixing in the magical power from the weave she added more power than what would be required to feel a party of orcs.

โ€œJane. Something is wrong with this one!โ€ Harry called as he drew his longsword in conjunction with loading a bolt into the crossbow.

โ€œIโ€™ll take care of it with this spell Harry!โ€ she called back as the spell finished. Looking towards the multiple sources of movement she launched the ball forward watching it race into the point of impact. The resounding explosion sent burning stalks of corn raining down along with clumps of dirt and rock. Taking a moment to breath and look for signs of life she walked forward and prepared to face what would come out of the corn โ€“ if it was still alive.

The creature watched as the human walked forward and waited. The image of the lifeless form amongst the corn stalks lay a dozen feet from the human but yet the creature bade its time. There were two creatures that could be its source of food today. As the human discovered the body it stumbled backwards shocked, the image that the creature had created was convincing enough and so it stalked forward. As it moved on its six legs, the vestigial mouth twitched and salivated in apprehension of its meal to come.

Throwing out a second illusion the creature caused the human who had hit it with the bolt to turn around, hearing something behind it. As the magic user also responded to the sound the creature slunk up on silent feet and grappled the woman, the vestigial mouth chewing instantly at the midsection of the woman opening up painful wounds. Wrapping its clawed paw around the human’s mouth it dragged it backwards into the tall crops causing the illusionary sound to be more frantic to ensure its escape with its prey. However the human lashed out with more magic causing a burst of sound.

The pain lashed through the creature’s body as it turned its claws inwards and slashed at the woman before retreating to lick its wounds to encourage its rapid healing. As the creature scurried away it watched as the human with the crossbow rushed to the mauled human witch. She was very weak now which increased the odds of the creature surviving. As its wounds knitted together, bones cracked back into place and bruising disappeared it prepared for its meal to come

Thanks for joining me for another night, a bit of a delay in posting this one tonight as a scheduled event means I wont post it immediately. Tomorrow we go into the map that we will be encountering the creature within but don’t worry, it won’t be an impossible task. So don’t forget to come back tomorrow and as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,

Orster Trading

With the looming danger of the creature, or thing that was in the town of Krencham the party begin to head away from the town. However on their way out they run into the Orster Trading company run by Harry and Jane Orster – experienced merchants who look like they can handle themselves.

So let’s grab a coffee, sit back and roll into tonight’s adventure!

Orster Trading

417TuOrTr

The road out of Krencham after the storm; and revelation of what it may have left behind afterwards, was calm. Branches and leaves lay strewn about the road which was lined with trees that separated the raised surface from the fields of overgrown and long forgotten crops.

Up ahead a pair of humans rode towards them on horses that pulled carts behind them. Waving and signalling the party they, a man and woman, stopped alongside the party. โ€œWe didnโ€™t think many people would be braving these roads after that storm last night. But here we are and well met.โ€ the man said with a smile, his hand holding the handle of a rather ornate looking longsword, his other hand by the side of his horse and hidden from view. โ€œI am Harry and this is my wife, Jane. Any news of the road up ahead that we should be aware of? The horses can cross over fallen trees, however the carts are not so lucky.โ€

After the party explained what happened the night before both of them exchanged a glance. โ€œWell we havenโ€™t seen anything out of the ordinary except a pack of dire wolves hunting up ahead. Luckily I was able to persuade them to hunt easier preyโ€ Jane replied with a knowing smile.

After a few more pleasantries Harry and Jane excused themselves, Harry storing a hand-crossbow that he had concealed at first meeting once he had determined the party meant no harm. As they rode off towards Krencham and beyond the party couldnโ€™t help but worry for them but they seemed formidable enough that they should be able to take care of themselves. As the party continued up the road the silence was oppressive. The birds seemed to be hiding away from the world and there wasnโ€™t any game to be found.

Half a mile later a flock of crows broke the silence as they burst forth from the tall crops. A waft of wind brought forth the sticky-sweet smell of blood from the site where the crows had gathered. Approaching the site the party bore witness to a massacre. Seven dire wolves lay dead, well what appeared to be seven dire wolves at least. The bodies were ripped apart, severed and torn apart and the pieces strewn about. All the body cavities had been ripped open and the innards removed, or devoured.

As they considered what could have done this the crack of thunder could be heard from the direction of Krencham. From this distance they could see flashes of magic, an explosion signalling a fireball, a blast of lightning and even booms of thunder as a fierce battle raged on. But within a few heart wrenching moments the magic stopped and silence swept across the plains again.

The party had no doubt that Orster Trading had met something hostile on the road through Krencham. Victorious or defeated they knew not but whatever the case they had better put some distance between them and the site of the battle in case they are next on the menu.

Now that I look at the plot line I have for this week, with last Saturdays trigger driving some of it, it may be a fair bit darker than my normal adventures. However the show must go on and we have barely started this weeks adventure! So don’t forget to come back each day this week and as always, don’t forget to roll with advantage,
